Like a Thief
Meet The Characters

Jesus/Jeenald Carpenter
Lead Role
Back for His second coming, and fourteen years old, this time the Son of God just wants to survive high school like any other kid, without getting clocked as Christ, or worse - woke. Having enrolled at Mosaic Classical Charter Academy, a school created by the fringe political activist group The Mother Frontier, He hastily comes up with the name Jeenald when introducing Himself to avoid revealing His identity. While the anonymity is a necessity, He also realizes nobody in two thousand years ever bothered writing down what He has been up to between ages twelve and thirty — which makes right now His prime opportunity to be an ordinary kid before the inevitable catches up with Him at thirty. It seems simple, but His near nonexistent tolerance for injustice proves to be an obstacle to His normal life. In a world where the cruelty is the point, mercy is the fastest way to blow His cover.

Mary Carpenter
Lead Role
The most venerated woman in history is back. Now she's a well meaning, but somewhat out of touch mom in a sea of conflicting information just trying to do right by a Son who she admittedly does not understand. This mostly means hovering, fussing, and, when she hears from The Mother Frontier that God is not allowed in public schools, enrolling Jesus in the first school that swears He's welcome. When His behavior becomes a problem, and His safety is at risk the Mother Frontier offers her a seat at the table - something she has never had before. She initially refuses their pointers on bending a story to her own ends, but the power it gives her makes Mary feel something dangerous and unfamiliar: She might be the most venerated woman in history, but it becomes salient no one has ever bothered listening to her. The pull of finally controlling her own narrative, after a lifetime of everyone else writing it for her, is hard to turn down - even if it comes at the cost of her own values.

Annelise Benseth
Lead Role
The no-nonsense founder of the Gail County chapter of The Mother Frontier is able to talk her way through any moot point and out of any hard question. A charter school being her main objective for years, she has stepped down from leadership serve as the principal of MCCA without the apparatus of conflict of interest. This does not stop her however, from getting in her two cents at board of education meetings. Whatever title she or someone else wears, don't be fooled. Annelise is always the one calling the shots. She wouldn't have it any other way.

Samantha Spade
Feature Role
Loyalist to the Mother Frontier, conspiracy theorist to everyone else, Sam has eagerly volunteered to fill Annelise's seat as Chair of the chapter. A stay-at-home mom turned empty nester, she has found renewed purpose in her outrage over mask mandates and government-forced-vaccines. She hopes the new position of chapter chair will earn her the respect she deserves, and everyone will finally stop talking about that time she accidentally quoted Adolf Hitler in a public comment to the school board.

Cheryl Díaz
Feature Role
As an acting member of the board of education, officially she is not a Mother Frontier member... but unofficially she gets drunk with them at every chapter meeting. They also endorsed her as a candidate and attended and donated to all her fundraisers. Others might experience consequences for the things they do and say, but Cheryl seems to be immune to that. No matter how vulgar and inane her words and actions, none of it ever seems to impact her election prospects, or her influence of the school board. Is it because she's hot?

The Momsemble
Ensemble/Dance Role
This ensemble part includes a number of spoken lines and small solos per person, but mostly chorus-style harmonies. This will be the most dance-intense ensemble. As the title sugguests, it is comprised primarily of feminine roles, however any part can be easily gender-bent to include a guy. Whether this ensemble would be alright with that is no object.

Students
Ensemble/Chorus
(Feature Roles TBD)
This ensemble part includes a number of spoken lines and small solos per person, but mostly chorus-style harmonies. The enesmble will incorporate dance. The students embody the stakes of the story, and their dialogue will consist of short, but pivotal lines that will rely on zealous delivery. Multiple student roles will become feature roles as the story is developed.

Board Members, General Public, Misc. Minor Roles
Ensemble/Minor Role(s)
This ensemble part includes a number of pivotal lines that will rely on zealous delivery. Parts will incorporate some small solos and dance, and will participate in harmonies, however the primary objective of these roles will be non-musical. Someone in this role should expect to be versatile, as in you will probably play multiple roles, and deliver spoken lines dramatically, comedically, or whatever the scene calls for.
