Alexa Sciuto

Hi! My name is Alexa and I conceptualized this musical. I am a tenured educator in Maryland, and I teach secondary Spanish. Lately, I have been studying for the LSAT. This may lead you to question, how did this person end up writing a musical? You're correct to question this, it makes no sense how it ever came to this. To put it simply, I am writing a musical because I have otherwise run out of ways of not shutting the f**k up.

Why write a musical?

I didn't always think I would write a musical. In fact I think most of my life I didn't. But, when I caught wind that Moms for Liberty was involved in a charter school in South Carolina that would feature curriculum from Hillsdale College, I knew someone had to bring awareness to it. My first thought after learning about a Moms for Liberty charter school was "Oh my god. If for some reason Jesus went to this school, he would get kicked out." So of course, I had to make a TikTok. I initially intended to let the video sit in my drafts until the school opened so I could get catch the headline wave and reach a wider audience. Bittersweetly, Ashley River Classical Academy never opened. The video did great anyway, reaching about 90k views. It was then that I knew this concept was just better as a musical. Now that a classical academy, with the support of Moms for Liberty, is set to open in my home state of Maryland, this seems like the right time for this show to exist.

My Story

When I was graduating college, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Unfortunately, I also knew I wanted to do comedy. This is unfortunate because the public nature of a comedian's social media presence came in direct conflict with the pressures placed on teachers to conceal all evidence of life outside of work from the public eye. I did my best to lead the double life for a few years, not because I wanted to keep anything hidden, but my colleagues and bosses made me feel like I needed to. Turns out, no matter how much I protected, something was always found. And when I became the target of right wing smear campaigns, including by Fox News, Libs of TikTok, Moms for Liberty, local lawmakers, and even one of my own building administrators, if they couldn't find something they just made something up. It was then that I realized keeping my page private had no effect, and I made it public. In breaking out of the pressure to stay private, I have taken my power back. I also have 34k followers on TikTok now, and I have been recognized at the Perry Hall CVS twice! I learned fight back in ways I can only describe as so stupid it can't be controversial. This brings us to Like a Thief, which I hope to develop into a delightfully stupid staged reductio absurdum, that will shed light on what I went through, as well thousands of educators, other professionals, and individuals that have been doxxed and could not speak up for themselves.

Behold, I am coming like a thief! Stay woke.
